New Plans for 2013

January 11, 2013 · 31 comments

The beginning of a new year is always a harbinger of people making new habits, new goals, and new plans.

I’ve touched on mine before, but I don’t think I’ve specifically mentioned things I’d like to try in the new year.

I noted that I’d like to step out of my comfort zone this year. That’s my overarching theme to 2013, so let the comfort be gone! I need to get off my butt and do more… ya know, when I have the time. Which these days, is never.

1. More alternate forms of exercise

Stand-Up Paddling:
I got a stand-up paddle board for Christmas. I am so excited to learn and reap the benefits of a stand-up paddle board workout. As soon as the weather gets warm enough, I plan to tackle the waters of the harbor around the corner from my house. My board is calling my name from the shed in the backyard.

Indoor Climbing
: Let it be known that as a child, I had my birthday party at a rock climbing gym two years in a row. I adored navigating the indoor rock climbing walls, and I haven’t seen one since high school gym class. Jamie and I have big plans to go climbing sometime when I don’t have rehearsal, and I’m pumped.

Yoga:
This is something I have neglected to take on for quite a while now. I find I fall victim to the “I want a real workout” mentality and always opt for a run or a boot camp session rather than sitting around and twisting my limbs. I’d like to change that, though, and I plan to stake out Groupon and Living Social for some hot or vinyasa yoga classes in my area.

2. Photography Class:
I’m one of those people who owns a fancy DSLR Canon Rebel and doesn’t even know how to use it to its potential. I really, really need to learn, and I’d love to take a class to better my photography skills.

3. Finding My Passion
: At the risk of sounding completely vague, I am ready to make 2013 the year I become more fulfilled. In general, I’d like to be making more of a difference. I want to find passion in everything I do, and I want to wake up every morning with purpose. There’s no better time to make this happen than now.

I wanna hear your plans for 2013! Leave me some ideas here.

SUP is my FAVORITE! I just discovered it a few years ago and although I don’t have a paddleboard yet (nor have I ever been on a real one) I’ve made my own with a windsurfing board or the lifeguard surfboards at work and a kayak paddle. It’s such a great workout for core and balance and it’s fun too! I want to get my own so I can really get into it too :)

if i’m ever in the area, i’m so joining you for the indoor rockclimbing – that is my SH!^ . seriously, I used to be obsessed too. We have one in our student rec center at WVU, but it’s also so packed, that I haven’t used it since freshman year … almost 5 years ago. YIKES. but I’m so there.

Ahh, I did stand up paddling when I visited my friend in Florida at the end of November at it was awesome!

My goals:
– Become proficient (yes, proficient) in final cut pro
– Do a hot yoga challenge for a month (I’ve been using this awesome 10 for 10 deal and am dreading the day it runs out). Hot yoga. is. awesome.
– Get more involved with Girls on the Run and other charities than I have in year’s past.

We shall see what this year has in store!

I’m completely with ya on the ‘finding my passion’ thing and being more fulfilled – that’s my biggest goal for the year! Best of luck to you, too, as you figure out what that may be! :)

Ps – there’s a Living Social deal right now for 10 hot yoga classes in Virginia Beach!

I want to get one of those fancy cameras so I can learn how to use them! ;)

But in all seriousness, I want to find a way to make my passions my LIFE. I want to find the career I love so much I can’t ever give up while still being able to financially support myself. I want to help people and help myself become a better version of me. :)

I have a fancy camera too but don’t know how to use it either! I would love to take a photography course this spring. I am also going to learn French! I would love to visit Paris and be able to speak the language :)

I could not agree more with number three. At the risk of sounding like a cliche 23-year old, I really want to “find myself” this year. I’m struggling to find steady work and I want 2013 to be the year where I find what I truly love to do.

I’m even considering a move. Probably to somewhere close enough to the water where I also could learn SUP. ;)

Those are great goals! I have the same resolution I have had every year for six years – I want this year to be the one where I get pregnant!

I have always wanted to try SUP, but never took the time. That’s also on my 2013 list! This year I’m going to try to put myself out there more, be more adventurous.

The photography class sounds like it would be fun and educational at the same time. Can’t wait to see your beautiful photographs popping up on the blog this year! (not that they aren’t now, cuz they are!)

I used to go indoor rock climbing all the time!! It was my favorite form of exercise until I moved away and had no one to go with. :( Thats the problem with rock climbing, you need a partner to do it with!! I’m slowly trying to get my fiance to do it with me. So far, I got him to go once!

Stand up paddle boarding always sounds so freaking fun to me. I would love to learn how to do it! For now, skiing, snow shoeing, and any snow-sport is on my “to learn” list, since we’ve moved to Colorado.
