Dear Habitual Snacking

August 10, 2012 · 33 comments

Dear Habitual Snacking,

You and I see entirely too much of each other, and I’m ready to take a break. A permanent break.

I am honestly not even hungry most of the time we meet. Whether it’s a big spread in the middle of a friendly gathering, an unnecessary midday snack, or a latenight trip to the pantry, I succumb to mindless eating out of boredom or gluttony.

Whenever we meet, I rarely benefit and generally am left feeling bad about myself later. You are doing my figure no favors and you are a dark shadow on my otherwise healthy lifestyle.

It’s time we broke up. You are holding me back from reaching my goals. I’m pledging to eat when I’m hungry and only then. I’ve been tricked by your ways, and I have had enough.

What do you need to “break up” with in your life? Write your own post, tell me in the comments below, or share at the following link on fitmixer.com to enter to win FREE fitmixer product of your choice:

So, tell me. What are you breaking up with? Who besides habitual snacking do we have to talk some smack about? 😉

[I have had no wireless all week and am posting from my iPhone… We’ll see how well this works out. Apologies for freaky formatting]

i am totally the same!! and ive been wanting to kick the snacking habit for an awful long time!!! its just natural to constantly have to pack snacks and worry about when and where and most importantly what to eat next. I am with youuuu we can do this!!! (Hopefully)

Dear Poor Quality Baked Goods-

Why do I waste time, energy, and calories on you? Bad doughnuts leave me with a stomach ache, waxy chocolate has a strange mouthfeel, and cheap cookies crumble in front of the home-baked competition. I am ending our relationship for something better, more wholesome, more delicious. Like high quality baked goods!

Love this idea!

BEER! summer cookouts and lake trips, fall football and firepits, winter snowy nights. Dear beer why do you taste so good during all of these?

Great post! I would like to write a letter to habitual snacking myself! Especially at night I always feel like I “need” a snack regardless of whether or not I’m actually hungry for it!

I’m an emotional eater, so I have the same problem. I need to give up eating sweets out of boredom…it’s not good for me!

I would break up with snacking, too. A lot of times, I snack while making dinner. If I would just wait till dinner was ready, I may not even need the snack!

I need to break up with my sugar/sweets addiction! I cannot stop. And clearly the more I eat sweets, the more I crave them. Ugh!

Dear Trail Mix,
I know you’re “healthy” and all, but eating a three pound bag of you in one week is NOT healthy.
Until we meet again Pistachio, Cranberry, and Almond mix,

I need to break up with going out to lunch. I always mean to get a salad but that burrito or huge sandwich sways me instead. I could cut a lot of calories/fat and save a lot of money if I bring something. So bon voyage, restaurant lunches!

Dear late night snacking-
I hate you. You hate me. Let’s stop meeting, unless you include casein protein. Thank you! 😉

I need to break up with bad body image – it always tells me what I see in the mirror isn’t good enough. Clearly, this is unacceptable and NOT TRUE.

You know, I’d say that I need to break up from sugar, but that just isn’t going to happen. Instead, I’d be that whiny, desperate girl who calls sugar every night, begging for him to take me back. So perhaps sugar and I just need to see other people (or other foods) a little more often. 😉

Dear mindless snacking,

It’s not you it’s me. I need to move on. Please find someone who actually is hungry and needs to eat. I have had my fill…..

I just broke up with alcohol. Well….I didn’t completely break it off, but I think we should see other people. The end of summer and the beginning of the fall semester at school should pretty much take care of my exclusive relationship with said adult beverages, but I just wanted to be clear 🙂

Ohmygosh…just found your blog and have spent the past hour reading your most popular posts! Absolutely love it. Lately, I’ve been trying to break up with the brewskis because I’m over hangovers and would rather feel energized on my weekend days!

This is a great post!! I’d like to break up with emotional and bored eating. When I’m upset I feel like I need to eat snacks to make myself feel better. In turn I feel worse, so I’m trying a new tactic to go for a run or walk or something to get my mind off things.

I’m breaking up with cereal. I don’t even eat it for breakfast (because I’m eating chobani and other things that have substance to them…) I’ll just snack on it mindlessly and before I know it the box is gone and I just bought it yesterday!
