The Best of Twitter: The 54th Grammy Awards

February 13, 2012 · 29 comments

Last, night, my Twitter feed was alight with #Grammy talk. Allow me to share with you the best of the best… and some of my reactions:

Let’s start with the obvious:

She always looks absolutely rainbows and butterflies and diamond sparkle stunning. Don’t get me started.

For the most part, the theme of the night. Team Adele!

Ack… I’ve gotta slap a big disagree stamp on this one. When I was a cocktail waitress in my college days, Adam Levine came to our Hilton restaurant. He was this scrawny guy who was totally awkward, asked one of the girls out on a date, and took her out and ran his finger over her teeth from across the booth telling her how “sexy” her chompers were. I’ve never been able to think he’s the slightest bit attractive just because I know how big of a kook he is.

I adore Glen Campbell and his adorabe face of recognition during the beginning of the Beach Boys set. And I would have loved to see his reaction to Nicki’s mess.

Allow me to say it again. YES, Adele. If I said “FTW,” I would here.

Sure don’t.

I meeaaannn.. really?! Really. There is nothing hot about that. I don’t like the droop boob look, either. And don’t give me the “she’s hot; she can pull off anything” stuff. Nuh uh.

Especially the lyric addition. Adored. You win, Taylor. You win always.

I went absolutely crazy town when Bruno Mars started his retro “Runaway Baby.” I adore that song (as you’ve seen here), and was so excited he chose that song to perform. However, my excitement will quickly wane if that becomes his new outrageously overplayed single. Please oh please, radio stations… don’t kill the beauty that is Runaway Baby.

I like Chris Brown’s music too much to hate on the fact that he performed (like a boss) and won an award. I know he did some seriously crappy stuff, but I can’t help but adore his talent and his music. I KNOW, I know, glorifying him is wrong. I can’t help it. I just love the music and I can’t stop watching his moves. I’m allowed to love a performer for his talent and not his character, right?

Plus, he and Rihanna are rumored to be back together. EDITED TO ADD/CLEAR UP: I hope they’re not back together. I do not condone domestic violence and I am aware of the effects it can have on its victims. I apologize a joke was mistaken for something more serious.

Sidenote: Did anyone else read JennaMarbles’ tweets during the Grammys? Was she drunk? Most likely not. Or probably yes.

Adam Levine is a cook?

I can’t believe I missed the Grammy’s. I don’t usually watch it, but there was so much commentary online that I almost feel like I did. I did tune in for a few minutes to watch the In Memoriam and felt so bad for all of the greats who there wasn’t much or any applause for. As though the people that were more famous were more worthy of praise. Blech.

Sigh…. the fact that Rihanna may or may not be back with him doesn’t mean that what he did wasn’t too bad. It means she may be part of a pattern of abuse where you sympathize with or even miss your abuser.

I feel like Rihanna was trying to channel Whitney with the hair.

Yikes, you should read up on domestic violence- most victims DO go back to their abusers. It’s a vicious cycle. I have a sense or humor and rarely comment on blogs but OUCH. I hope DV victims aren’t reading this thinking “yeah, she’s right, it’s not that bad.”

Alyssa, I have to agree with you that I do enjoy Chris Brown’s music and I try to separate listening to the songs from who he is because I definitely don’t support him as a person.

And I’m trying hard not to criticize, but I just think you may want to think more carefully about the way you word things like “he couldn’t have done anything that terrible” because we all know he did. We saw proof in the photos, and just because they’re rumored to be back together, it doesn’t change what he did, or to what degree. I usually love your blog, and I’ll continue to read, but that just rubbed me the wrong way.

I LOVE T. Swift but here whole “HolyOmiGoshICantBelieveIt” look after her performance when she got a standing ovation was a little…BS. Come on Swifty. Maybe that would have worked 5 years ago but you’re a freaking 6-time Grammy winner. A standing ‘O’ should not be a surprise.

J Hudson bout made me cry.

Ahh the Grammy’s.. I love em. Also I love Adele, and she should win every award out there even if she does not qualify for the award.

Rhianna’s hair was whakadoo, but I have to admit, I’ve got some lady love for her. I wouldn’t kick her out of bed for eating crackers if you know what I mean.

Rhianna’s hair is in a hopeless place.

Team Breezy. He was wrong wrong wrong for what he did to Rhi but I love his music and hope that he’s learned from his heinous mistake.

I cannot with Taylor Swift. She is the same age as Adele but acts like she is in middle school and probably writes all of her lyrics on Lisa Frank notebooks. I think she’s a good songwriter but the overly cutesy, “i’m shocked that people like me” stuff has got to stop.

Glad to hear that everything went well with your surgery and that you’re feeling better.

Love this twitter recap of the Grammy’s. What a fun night.

Oh, and next time I want to make a new friend I’m going to rub their teeth and tell them they have sexy chompers.

Like, what!?

This post was amazing (and YAY shoutout!) 🙂 I totally agree – does Rhianna not look like she kind of smells and doesn’t shower sometimes? Just me? Hated the hair. Love Chris Brown’s music… not so much his life choices. I thought Adele was at least 30. Woooops. Also TSwift, I don’t know what it is, but I just love her.

OMG, I love that Adam Levine story.
Except I have a similar story about Taylor Swift. One of my friends spent a couple of high school years with her, and let’s just say– girl was craycray. My friend ended her story with- “And that’s why so many of her songs are about guys rejecting her.”

17 Nicole February 14, 2012 at 4:23 am

Such a funny post, thanks for that!

And I could not agree more about Carrie Underwood, how gorgeous and talented is she?! Love her and every single one of her outfits!

Awkward turtle… you’re fab. We all know you don’t support domestic violence. We have the same sense of humor girl, I get ya!

1 ) Loveeee your blog
2) Agreed on Chris Brown – what he did was terrible, but I hope that is becoming more mature and is reshaping his future. I freaking loved the last performance with him, lil wayne, david guetta…
3) Rihanna’s hair… woof.

andddd now i’m going to go download that Bruno Mars song and add it to my playlist.
