Friday Fings

1. That title is à la Adele. Y’know, because she doesn’t pronounce her “th”s. Like a real Brit.

If you recall, I lived in England for three years as a kid. So I’m using my Bri-ish accent as I type this. Maybe I need to do a vlog of all the accents I’ve picked up while living in England, New Jersey, North Carolina, and Virginia.

Side note: Badly executed British accents really, really get on my nerves. I’m such a snobby brat.

3. It’s actually my British childhood best friend’s birthday today. You know what’s trippy? Being Facebook friends with people you haven’t seen since you were 8 years old. Also, just in case you didn’t know, Brits always put “xxx” or “xx” or “x” after anything they post or comment on Facebook. I always have to remember this when I post on their wall, or I look like the asshole who doesn’t like giving virtual kisses.

Happy birthday, cutiepie Hannah.

I know. My childhood daintiness astounds me, too. I was, however, a real champ at the long jump. 1996 Tamarac Junior Olympics Champ, if I do say so myself.

2. Virginia Beach got its first substantial snowfall this past Saturday night. It was my first day feeling human again, so my parents and I also celebrated my birthday that night.

I’m not sure if Chloe remembered what the snow was. Regardless, she had a grand ol’ time trying to figure it out.

Remember when she discovered snowfall for the first time last year?

Gosh, those were the days. I just came across a video of her scampering through the snow that day and my heart melted all over the place.

3. My heart also melted at the sight of my sweet Get Well card from Julie. I have the best blends who make me feel so loved.

If you want to be in the running for “favorite” (I mean, Julie’s lookin’ pretty strong with this puppy card…), you are highly encouraged to shove more happy things in my face.

…Especially because my stitches apparently hate me. I had to go back to the dermatologist because they are red and inflamed, and I was told I’m no longer allowed to run until I get them out. Awesome.

I’ll be pouting in the corner of the couch all weekend. Probably watching the full second season of 24 if I can get my hands on it.

4. I miss doing pushups like crazy. I’m a little frustrated I can’t do any weights workouts for a while, especially with how strong I’ve gotten from my strength training post-marathon. I’m pretty sure by the time I’m fully healed and able to rock and roll again I’ll have lost most of my strength, and that makes me sad.

5. These used to be funny. Now, they’re getting old for me. My FB Newsfeed is littered with versions of every profession you can imagine.

(taken from various friends’ Facebooks)

(I actually really like this one for the Wawa love)

My favorite has been the “what you think you do; what your mom thinks you do; who actually cares” version… but, of course, I can’t find it to show you.

Happy three day weekend! Have a few nice workouts for me. And if you haven’t already, enter to win a box of thinkThin bars in my thinkWellness giveaway.

You’re incredible. Truly, honestly, an inspiration. And you know what? It’s ok to be miserable. And to revel in it. Because it means more fro yo and blankets.

You’ll be back at it before ya know itttttt!

that’s frustrating, it’s a good thing you’re such a positive person by nature! Secretly, I would kind of love to have an excuse to not work out :)

Ok somehow I’m just finding out about your skin cancer situation and I am in disbelief! It is so not ok and I admire you for being such a champ about it. Melanoma runs in my family too and so I am always pasty white and even get made fun of it…but I don’t care! Not worth the risk. hope you are feeling better soon!!

Absence makes the heart go fonder, or at least as the saying goes. Just think how much you’ll love getting back into your workouts. I foresee major sweat-feasts in your future.

I hadn’t seen these until Margot did one on Marathoners. So obvs the bar was set way too high for any of the others that popped up after http://thefasterbunny.blogspot.com/2012/02/marathonersmy-take-on-meme.html

oh my word, this is fantastic. however, for it to be accurate, katniss needs to be less smiley and the boys need to be hotter. ;)

I wish I had thought to do this.

Take your time resting and recovering… the workouts will be there when you’re ready for them! I wish I could do push-ups too, but I can’t simply because I don’t have the upper body strength. I can’t even do 1, so I’m not sure how to even begin. I wish I was the kind of person who looked forward to push-ups!

So sorry that you can’t work out! <- such a weird sentence. But I know what you mean! I was injured for almost all of January and I went a little insane with not being able to move much. I also couldn't sleep at night because I wasn't moving during the day. It was annoying! But taking the time to fully rest and recover is so important. Feel better!

I’ve never commented before but I just wanted to let you know that I’ve heard you can skip strength training for 3-6 months without experiencing any significant decrease in strength! I’m not a personal trainer or anything, so someone with more knowledge may correct me, but I swear I’ve heard that more than once!

1. I’m glad you came out of comment hiding
2. WHY have I never heard that?! this is fantastic news. I know the two week running rule, but I hadn’t heard it about strength training. weeeheee!

thank you for making my week.

I think it’s so funny you remember to leave ‘xxx’ for your British friend! We do the same thing in Australia – as well as writing things like ‘Oh hey beautiful’ or ‘G’day gorgeous girl’ etc etc… I quickly learned my freshman year at college American girls don’t talk like this – unless you really wanna creep your friends out!!

31 Alyssa @ Life of bLyss February 18, 2012 at 5:41 pm

Any chance you’ll be in Richmond next weekend for the Virginia Wine Expo? I’ll be pouring Saturday morning for Potomac Point if so! Say hi and I’ll give you a nice, hefty pour. ;)

Are you supposed to get snow Sunday night? We are in Fredericksburg and I’m so excited to take my dog out! Chloe looks so cute in the snow. :) So much fun!

Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

gosh, I hadn’t thought about going to Richmond next weekend… doubtful I can make the trip last minute and make arrangements for Chloe, but it would have been cool!

I’m in NC for the weekend so my mom can change my bandages for me. I did hear we were supposed to get snow, though! and did you know my sister lives in Fburg? :)
