Lucky “Irish” Princesses

March 14, 2011 · 26 comments

I’m always left feeling a little left out when St. Patty’s Day rolls around, because the “How Irish are yoouuu?” conversation always rears its ugly head.

I announced my non-Irish decent in T-shirt form my freshman year of college

Well, ya know what? I’m not any Irish! I’m 0% Irish! Wait, no, I’m -100% Irish!

Not really. I just get bitter sometimes, because there’s no holiday to celebrate my 50% German heritage. Or my 30% English. Or the 20% French.

And, although that equals 100%, there’s even a teensy bit Lithuanian in me. My Poppop told me so, and he knows his stuff. I’m proud of that .4 (or whatever)% Lithuanian, because it sounds really cool.

Anyway, my lack of Irish roots didn’t stop me from celebrating St. Patty’s Day in style this weekend. At 8 a.m. on Saturday morning (seriously, who gets up that early to celebrate?) a Β large group of us, including my friends Bethany and Laura, met at an Irish Pub in town for breakfast sandwiches and mimosas. We piled on a double-decker bus and headed to the sunny parade by the waterfront.

not too early for mimosaaasss!

The weather was perfect!

so much green!

Bethany and I may have bought matching dresses from Forever 21.

in front of the double-decker!

They may have been $12.

Our belts we found at Old Navy may have cost more than the dress.

we make a nice "Irish" trifecta

We were Lucky Irish Princesses with aviators for the day. πŸ˜‰

group shot by a nearby lady who had had too many Bud Lights

I’m really looking forward to rounding out the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations with the SHAMROCK HALF MARATHON this weekend! Gosh, I can’t believe it’s finally here.

Anastasia, my running twin AND partner in crime and I are reeeaady-eady.

Did you already celebrate? Or do you plan on showing off your green this weekend? What are your St. Patty’s Day plans?

Have you ever gotten up BRIGHT and early for such a celebration?

The GIVEAWAY is closing on Wednesday! Enter myΒ GIVEAWAY to win aΒ free shot glass with the hand painted design of your choice!Β Click here for instructions to enter.

Oh yeah. I am the queen of getting up unnecessarily early for things I’m excited to do/celebrate! πŸ™‚ I’m like a kid on Christmas Eve, I can’t sleep and get all antsy because I’m so excited and keyed up!

Also: I hear ya on the Lithuanian thing. I am like 15% Estonian and I am just SO PROUD of that little bit lol because I mean, who else is Estonian? And it’s fun to say.

I would love to be English and definitely French! Ahh, it’s my dream to go to France. I believe I am Irish, German, Italian and Welsh.

Looks like you had fun! My brother went to the parade in Hoboken (nj) and had a blast! Why is there no parade by me?!! womp womp

Thank you for your nice comment on my blog. πŸ™‚ Can I just say I love the name *Alyssa* That’s my sister’s name too! Although at the hospital my parents couldn’t remember how they wanted to spell it so she has two “ll’s” Way to get festive with your 0% Irishness. πŸ™‚

Those dresses are adorable! And Germans get Oktoberfest, same premise (lots of drinking), just not as publicized. We should start a movement! haha.

Oh my goodness. I need that tshirt, we are almost twinnies minus I’m 20% Scottish instead of French.

I agree with Kace-lets start a movement for Oktoberfest!

LOVING your new layout! I finally have internet!

Looks like you had a blast, yay!!

I’m 0% Irish. In fact, if a person could be negative something, I would be -50% Irish. If that makes sense.

in college we would wake up at 6am to get banded for free for the st pattys block parties. the goal was always – get banded – get a beer – go back to bed and then come out later to party.

every year… we stayed the ENTIRE TIME! I’m quite proud of my liver! =) Though i’m in a new state without my friends this year… kind of sad about that! i’ll have to live vicariously through your celebrations! <3

16 Katelyn March 15, 2011 at 1:43 am

Girl, I have a ton of German too! I love being blonde and tanning well at the same time:)

Slash have you never heard of Oktoberfest?! It lasts a whole month and it’s all about drinking, eating, dancing, repeat. One day we will go and celebrate our German heritage with some German beer, but no yodeling mmk:)

Here in Chicago, they paint the Chicago river green. It’s dirty to begin with, but on St Patrick’s day, once it’s green, it looks awesome.

18 This Italian Family March 15, 2011 at 3:18 am

Love your dress! Forever 21 is so great. πŸ™‚

Girl, I’ve only got a wee bit of Irish in me so no worries. We should celebrate heritage day once a year so everyone gets a chance to celebrate where they came from! πŸ™‚

19 Maryann (The Balanced Bean) March 15, 2011 at 5:35 am

That looks like such a blast! and cute pics! Ill wake up early for mimosas any day πŸ˜‰ And I totally love your shirt in the first pic, I always wanted to wear one of those shirts that say “Kiss me, Im Irish”. I’ll need to find one like yours πŸ™‚

20 didta7 March 15, 2011 at 11:49 am

wow great i like it!

21 Haughty by Nature March 15, 2011 at 10:52 pm

This looks so fun! I can’t tell what looks better, the mimosas or $12 dresses. I think I like them both equally.

Ugh, last year I went on a St. Patty’s day pub crawl and it was the best day ever…but I had to take the Praxis last Saturday when it was going on. I hate it when learning gets in the way of my boozing and socializing!

22 Lee March 16, 2011 at 1:28 am

I’m not even a little bit Irish but I enjoy green beer.

23 Erin Kidd March 18, 2011 at 12:04 am
